The sixth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on November 15, 2024, solves the series' first mystery and opens another. At night, while the others sleep, Glorio calls the person he really works for: Dr. Arinsu. The next morning he challenges Goku to a duel to test his strength.
Summary
The ship is not badly damaged: it is just overloaded with Panzy's luggage, and the group leaves half of it behind. While she checks the engine, Goku explains who the Kais are, and Panzy is amazed that nobody pays them for their work. Then Goku urgently needs to relieve himself and dashes behind a bush, catching a toilet roll on the way. Right then a Gendarmerie patrol lands looking for him: Glorio, the Supreme Kai and Panzy, who has to show her Third World collar, play along and the officers leave.
In flight, the Supreme Kai explains that the Glind are born from trees, five in all, and that those born from the same tree count as siblings: such is the case with Degesu and Arinsu. Degesu stayed in the Demon Realm because he never got along with his people, Arinsu because she preferred living there. Goku remarks that the Supreme Kai's siblings all seem to be trouble. That night the group camps in a cave, and Glorio says he wants to defeat Gomah because he makes demons suffer. Once everyone is asleep, he steps out and contacts Arinsu: everything is on track, and they will reach the First World in a few days.
At dawn a huge talking minotaur shows up to eat them. Goku mistakes it for a cow, then argues with Glorio over who gets to fight it, and the two end up sparring with each other in front of the baffled monster. Goku promises to use only one arm, but Glorio means business: from his fingertip he fires orbs of energy crackling with purple lightning, then an electric whip that knocks the Power Pole out of Goku's hands.
The Supreme Kai asks Goku to fight seriously so they can gauge Glorio's strength. Goku turns Super Saiyan, blocks his rival's strongest blast with an open hand and appears behind him. Glorio surrenders, Panzy mistakes the transformation for magic, and the intimidated minotaur retreats, claiming he has already eaten. On Earth, meanwhile, Bulma finishes repairing the Supreme Kai's ship, but with Vegeta, Piccolo and Kibito aboard it shuts down after a few feet and drops back onto the Lookout.
Our take
The twist about Glorio comes early, and it is a smart choice: the viewer knows more than the heroes, and every kind gesture from the demon becomes suspicious. The script does not turn him into a pantomime traitor, though. His words about the suffering of demons sound sincere, and the series will keep that ambiguity alive for a long time.
The duel is the series' first evenly matched fight, and it shows how much care went into the animation: Glorio fights with magic rather than ki, and the contrast with Goku's style is clear. Seeing Super Saiyan in a child's body recalls the Majin Buu Saga, when Goten and Trunks were the ones transforming. And the bathroom humor Toriyama loved opens and closes the episode.
Trivia
- "Lightning" is the official English title on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Toonami aired the English dub on July 27, 2025.
- Directed by Gaku Yano, with Takumi Yamamoto as animation director; written by Yūko Kakihara.
- This is where we learn how the Glind are born: from five trees, which makes the Supreme Kai, Degesu and Arinsu "siblings".
- Glorio uses several electric magic techniques here, including a binding spell and a lightning whip.
Did you know? Glorio, who passes himself off as a demon from the First World, actually comes from the Third: he moved to the First when Arinsu hired him.
