The fifth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on November 8, 2024, introduces the series' most important new female character: Panzy, the girl behind the mask. With her, the group reaches the castle of King Kadan, the ruler who sent Glorio to find Goku, and sets off toward the first Dragon Ball.
Summary
Panzy asks Goku how a child can be so strong, and he simply says that he trains. When she notices his round ears, Glorio cuts in: he is from the Second World. Goku lets slip that they are heading to Kadan Castle, and Panzy tags along even though Glorio asks her not to. Meanwhile, the Gendarmerie officers he knocked out wake up and swear to find him.
On a shortcut, Panzy shows off her magic by lifting a pebble, but explains that her real talent is machines: she is an inventor. She also reveals that she is 82 years old, very young for a people who can live up to a thousand, and Goku is amazed to learn that the little girl is older than he is. In the First World palace, Gomah scolds the nanny reading bedtime stories to Dende: she must take great care of him, because the child will be needed to create new Dragon Balls.
At the castle, the guards greet the group with hostility, until it turns out that Panzy is the princess, King Kadan's daughter. The king is disappointed: he was expecting the warriors who beat Majin Buu and finds himself facing children. The Supreme Kai explains Gomah's wish and the plan to collect the Demon Realm's three Dragon Balls; Kadan confesses that he would like to become Supreme Demon King himself and even offers Panzy's hand to Goku, who replies that he is already married with two sons. To be convinced, Kadan pits him against all his soldiers at once, and Goku beats them without a scratch.
That evening Kadan lends Glorio a ship to reach the first Dragon Ball, four days away, and tasks his attendant Hybis with fetching Bulma, Vegeta and Piccolo from Earth, since they do not know the Warp Lord's password. Panzy turns up with a mountain of luggage and talks her father into letting her go. The Supreme Kai warns Goku that Glorio may be hiding his true intentions. Moments after takeoff, the engine sputters and the ship crashes.
Our take
Panzy is this adventure's Bulma, and the tribute is obvious: young, sharp, mad about machines and completely unbothered by danger. Toriyama still gives her a voice of her own, that of a girl living under a regime who wants to see it fall. The age gag, with an 82-year-old princess acting like a teenager, is classic Toriyama humor.
King Kadan, on the other hand, brings the Demon Realm's politics on stage: he is no selfless ally but a claimant to the throne who sees Goku as a weapon. Together with the Supreme Kai's warning about Glorio, the picture becomes murkier: in the Demon Realm, nobody helps for free. And the closing crash brings the show straight back to comedy.
