The eighth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on November 29, 2024, delivers the series' first big fight: Goku against Tamagami Number Three, guardian of the Third Demon World's Dragon Ball. In the second half the story turns to Arinsu, who is plotting with the witch Marba to seize the Demon Realm.

Summary

The Tamagami charges straight away, a huge war hammer against Goku's Power Pole, and a crowd rushes over to watch. They are evenly matched until Goku, pinned by the force of the blows, turns Super Saiyan and snaps the guardian's weapon in two. He puts the pole away and carries on barehanded. Only a Kamehameha and an elbow strike as a Super Saiyan 2 persuade the Tamagami to surrender.

To claim the Dragon Ball, though, there is a second test: the guardian hides it under one of several cups on a table, shuffles them at lightning speed and asks Goku where it is. Goku notices that the Tamagami threw it away instead of putting it under a cup, and wins. The guardian says he likes him and wishes him luck with the other two balls. As the crowd celebrates, Glorio secretly reports to Arinsu, who praises him and decides it is time for her main plan.

In the First World, Gomah and Degesu rewatch footage of Vegeta's sacrificial explosion against Majin Buu. In the background they spot Arinsu collecting pieces of Buu's body. The doctor takes them to the great witch Marba, the same one who created Majin Buu at Bibidi's request millions of years ago, and who is now using those fragments to make a new creature. Arinsu adds her saliva so that it will be loyal to her, and reveals her goal: to overthrow Gomah and rule the Demon Realm. Should she fail, there are always the Dragon Balls Goku is collecting for her.

In the Third World, King Kadan contacts Hybis, Bulma, Vegeta and Piccolo to share Goku's feat and arrange to meet near the Warp Lord. Vegeta demands an explanation about the Demon Realm's Dragon Balls, but Hybis ignores him: far too arrogant for someone who is not even a king. Fuming, the Saiyan prince asks again, this time adding "please".

Our take

The duel is the first real test of Daima's animation, and it passes in style: a readable fight, with a physical opponent and a weapon that changes the rules. The best touch comes afterwards with the shell game. The Tamagami are not just walls to knock down: after strength they ask for wits, like the challenges in Toriyama's old tournaments, and Goku wins on instinct rather than muscle.

Arinsu's half shifts the series' center of gravity. Her scene with Marba ties Daima directly to the Majin Buu Saga: the new creature is literally born from Buu's remains. And Vegeta's "please" is one of the best gags in the series.
