The eleventh episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on December 20, 2024, adds a key character to the group, the legendary Namekian Neva, and introduces a new one on the other side: Majin Duu, Arinsu's second creature. In the finale it is Vegeta's turn to face a Tamagami, and things go wrong fast.

Summary

As the group is about to leave the Demon Realm's Namek, an old Namekian approaches. When he sees the Dragon Ball in Panzy's bag he pretends to be senile, until Piccolo tells him to drop the act: he has recognized him as the legendary Neva. The old man, in turn, remarks that Piccolo reminds him of Katas. Cornered, he admits that he helped Gomah at Kami's Lookout, but insists that Dende is safe: he is too valuable for anyone to harm him.

Goku explains that they want to collect the three Dragon Balls to become adults again, and Neva asks to come along: wishes must be spoken in the Namekian language, and nobody in the group can speak it, not even Piccolo, who forgot it after living on Earth for so long. On the way, Neva says he stayed behind to protect the planet in case his people ever returned. The Dragon Balls were created as a reward for the Namekians, but when ill-intentioned people found out about them, he created the Tamagami so they would no longer be easy to obtain.

In the First World, Arinsu returns to Marba after Kuu's failure. Using what remains of Majin Buu's essence and the last Saibaman seed, the two create a new being, more powerful and more unstable: Majin Duu. The first thing he asks for is chocolate. Kuu borrows money from Arinsu and dashes to the convenience store, and the two squabble right away when Duu eats his "brother's" bar too. Sent against Tamagami Number One, Duu proves a far tougher opponent, fast and unpredictable.

Vegeta, meanwhile, insists on facing Tamagami Number Two himself, slimmer than the first and armed with a trident. The guardian mocks his height, but seeing its creator Neva it realizes the challenge is serious. Vegeta fights without transforming and holds his own, until an energy slash knocks him into the sea. He escapes a kraken trying to suck him in, flies back up and is struck again, just as the kraken resurfaces and swallows him whole.

Our take

Neva is one of the series' best characters: a sly, ambiguous old man who plays the fool and has a complicated past. His explanation of the Dragon Balls gives the Tamagami a clear purpose, and the link to the Namekians of the Frieza Saga enriches the mythology without contradicting it.

Majin Duu, greedy and childish, is an affectionate portrait of the good Majin Buu, and his chocolate squabble with Kuu is pure Toriyama. The episode then ends on an old-school Dragon Ball cliffhanger: Vegeta, finally in the spotlight, vanishes into a sea monster's mouth.
