The thirteenth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on January 10, 2025, is an open detour from the main plot. While Gomah tries to block access to the First World, the group's ship crashes on Mega, a planet where everything is gigantic. The result is an episode of pure adventure, with Goku and friends reduced to the size of insects.

Summary

Learning that the group has also won the second Dragon Ball, a panicking Gomah orders Degesu to disable the Warp Lord so nobody can reach the First Demon World. Degesu reluctantly obeys. Meanwhile the ship carrying the whole team suffers engine failure and crashes on a planet, with no one hurt. Vegeta suggests flying on ahead, but the Supreme Kai reminds him that a mortal cannot pass through a Warp Lord alone.

Neva realizes where they have landed: Mega, home of the Megath and the second most dangerous place in the Demon Realm, where even the Supreme Demon King dares not set foot. Everything there is enormous. Out of earshot, Glorio contacts Arinsu to tell her they have the second ball: between the ones in Glorio's hands and the one Duu won, the doctor effectively controls all three.

While Bulma and Panzy repair the ship, Goku finds a giant apple but is attacked by a pack of hamsters twice his size. Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Glorio struggle to fend them off, until the ground starts shaking and the critters flee. The footsteps belong to a Megath child hundreds of feet tall, on his way home from school, who sits down to snack on a kraken tentacle. With him is a dog, which immediately sniffs out the tiny intruders.

The fighters must keep the dog away from the ship, among giant ticks and desperate leaps; when the animal goes for the glowing mineral that powers the engine, Goku blasts it away with a Kamehameha. The commotion draws the child, who tries to swat the freshly launched ship like a fly. Goku stops him, ends up in his school bag, bursts out as a Super Saiyan and blocks a ruler strike with his Power Pole. In the end everyone boards and escapes. Neva adds that adult Megath are even more terrifying, and that there is an even more dangerous planet: Giga, home of the Gigath.

Our take

"Surprise" is an episode you could skip without missing any plot, and that is exactly why it says so much about Daima. Toriyama wanted an adventure series, and here adventure is everything: a new world, absurd creatures, no villain to beat, just a danger to escape. The giant schoolboy with his bag and ruler is a comic idea worthy of the creator of Dr. Slump (Akira Toriyama), and the change of scale makes even simple scenes spectacular.

The most interesting part is the role reversal: the strongest warriors in the universe, shrunk and now truly tiny, are treated like bugs. It is the same spirit with which the original series put Goku in trouble against animals and monsters bigger than him.
