The seventeenth episode of Dragon Ball Daima, broadcast in Japan on February 7, 2025, opens the final battle. First comes a duel for the Dragon Balls between Goku and Majin Duu, then the arrival of Gomah, turned by the Third Eye into an almost invincible giant. This is the episode where the series shows the full extent of its animation ambitions.
Summary
Facing the group, Dr. Arinsu shows off the one-star Dragon Ball. The Supreme Kai greets the sister he has not seen in ages and asks for the ball so they can become adults again, but she refuses: she has a wish of her own, to become Supreme Demon King and build a Demon Realm so fearsome that the outside world must bow to it. She proposes a contest instead: one of her fighters against one of theirs, and the winner takes all three Dragon Balls.
Vegeta wants to settle who fights with rock, paper, scissors, but Goku reminds him that he already had his turn with Tamagami Number Two, and Bulma ends the argument. Arinsu picks Majin Duu. Goku fights with his Power Pole against the Majin's strange techniques, falls behind and evens the odds by turning Super Saiyan. The fight is balanced until Gomah emerges from the palace, eager to test his new strength.
With telekinesis, Gomah lifts the rocks around the castle and fuses them into a ring floating in the sky. Vegeta attacks first but is overpowered even as a Super Saiyan and tossed aside. Goku suggests they all attack together, and Piccolo, the Supreme Kai and Glorio join him: not even four of them can make a dent, and in the chaos Goku drops the bag with the healing bugs.
Bulma asks Arinsu for help, and she sends in Kuu and Duu, while Neva persuades Tamagami Number One to join the fight. Even with eight fighters, they cannot prevail: the Third Eye's power lets Gomah repel even a combined attack. The king knocks several of them out, and as he is about to finish Goku, Duu and the Tamagami step in. Those few seconds are all Goku needs to transform into his most powerful state, Super Saiyan 3.
Our take
The title is the villain's name, and the episode does him justice. Until now Gomah had mostly been a petulant, somewhat comic ruler; with the Third Eye he becomes a genuine threat, and the series proves it in the clearest way possible, pitting him against eight opponents at once. The ring of floating rocks is a memorable arena, and the direction uses every inch of it for camera moves and aerial clashes.
There is room for character, too: Vegeta wanting to settle his turn with rock, paper, scissors, Bulma shutting him down, Arinsu agreeing to help. It is the kind of ensemble fight Dragon Ball had not shown in years, and it sets up the next step nicely, already hinted at by the last-minute Super Saiyan 3.
